I get to a few of the fine dinners at the post now that I have a vehicle. Without one I hadn’t been to a dinner since 2010. They have 2-4 scheduled every month usually on weekends. Dinners usually start at 5 pm and the cost at present is $8 for most of them. There is a reservation list at the post for some meals so the volunteers will know how many are to be served. You need to call in or visit the post to be added to the list. (909) 866-4845

July 31, 2010 I attended a memorial for Don Brown, past commander and officer of American Legion Post 584 Big Bear Lake California. Don did a great deal over the years for the post. He was an ex Marine and retired LAPD. Many legionnaires and members of Don’s family spoke at the ceremony in the back courtyard of the Legion post at 41606 Big Bear Boulevard, Big Bear Lake, CA 92315, (909) 866-4845. I enjoyed the elaborate luncheon spread and conversation with Rod Talley, also retired LAPD.

My own service time was unique. I served with the Army Security Agency and was stationed in Asmara Eritrea. I have a memoirs section on my website for those years which many of us recall fondly. Kagnew Station, Asmara, Eritrea , 1954-1956 .
